Revised Spinning

I got a new spindle this weekend at the local Guild meeting, and happened to see the very woman who truly inspired me to start spinning. I'd gotten the idea long before meeting her from a friend's grandmother, but L was the first person to show me how easy the process was. She has an amazing enthusiasm for the craft, and as ~dragonmaille and I watched, she produced yard after yard of thread-thin yarn on a tiny drop spindle.

Having gotten to a point with my spinning that I felt ready to refine my techniques, I watched her for a long time, just studying her hands, her rhythm, and how effortless she made the whole process look. Upon talking with her, I learned several things I could do to make better, thinner singles. I can not thank her enough.

This pic includes the first batch I'd spun with my old spindle, the new batch with the new spindle, and a comparison to really show the difference in thickness between the two. I don't have a pic of the top of the new spindle yet; it's got a bloodwood inlay.

I like it so much.
